North girls vs Franklin County Jan. 24

The North Decatur girls varsity and junior varsity basketball games against Franklin County, originally scheduled Dec. 28, have been rescheduled for Thursday, Jan. 24. The junior varsity game will begin at 6 p.m.

Cougar, Charger JH boys split

The North Decatur junior high boys basketball teams earned a split against South Decatur in recent action.

The seventh grade Chargers topped South 41-18. North outscored South in each quarter, leading 22-11 at the half.

Cole Parmer led North with 22 points. Evan Smith followed with eight, while Caleb Stapp scored three. Sidney Ricke, Luke Kinker, Quirin Gauck and Matthew Borgman each added two.

South’s eighth graders beat North 54-36. South led 13-6 after the first quarter, but North took a 20-17 lead at the half. However, the Cougars entered the fourth quarter leading 32-29, then outscored North 22-7 in the final period.

Ben Kinker led North with 19 points. Kyle Kramer scord nine, Nick Moorman scored five, Matt Kachur added two and Ian Schmid chipped in one.

Pirate 8B boys fall to Shelbyville

The Greensburg boys 8B basketball team competed against Shelbyville at home and lost 45-42. The Pirates led several times throughout the game, even leading by two with 49 seconds remaining, but came up short.

“While this was an exciting game for the players and fans, this is a game where we learned a lot. In the end, that is what this level is all about,” said head coach Justin Tucker.

Cory Adams led the team in scoring with 16 points, including two 3-pointers.  Keaton Atchley added nine points for the Pirates, while James Scudder put up 8 points. Dylan Barber added 7 points and Zach Pokrzywinski gave the Pirates two. Tanner Carman, Thomas Stevens, Darian Davis, and Kirk Scott gave the team some quality offensive minutes, according to Tucker.

Scudder led the team in rebounds with a career-high 14, as Barber added nine. Davis, Adams, Stevens, and Pokrzywinski each added one board each to the rebound total. Scudder also led the team with five steals, while Barber added three, and Stevens and Adams each added one each.

“Although we did lose, the team we played against was a very talented team, and we have to look past it. Some things did not go our way, but we must learn from that and improve from it,” added Tucker.
