The South Decatur baseball team improved to 3-1 on the season with a 10-0 win in five innings at Brown County.
The Cougars scored three runs in the first inning, added a run in the third and scored six more times in the fifth.
South tallied eight hits and committed zero errors. Senior Connor Hermesch hit a double for South’s extra-base hits.
Brown County was held to five hits and committed six errors.
Junior Taylor Kopplin earned the winning decision on the mound.
JV Cougars fall in opener
The South junior varsity team opened the season with a 20-10 loss to Brown County.
South scored one in the first inning, but the Eagles scored four in the first to take a 4-1 lead. The Eagles scored four more in the second inning for an 8-2 edge. South added a run in the third, but the Eagles put up another four-spot for a 12-2 lead after three.
The Cougars responded with three runs in the top of the fourth, making it 12-5, but the Eagles pushed ahead 14-5 with two more in the bottom of the inning. Despite a five-run fifth inning for South, making it 14-10, Brown County ended the game with six in the bottom of the frame to decide the outcome by run rule.
