North linksters sweep Spartans off Bridge

Greensburg — The North Decatur boys golf program tallied double wins Tuesday night over Southwestern Shelby. The host Chargers beat the Spartans 168-221 on the Bridge Nine Par 35.

The victory improves North to 4-5 on the season.

North senior Thomas Shobe and freshman Dayne Lecher each shot a 41, earning them meet co-medalist honors.

“Shobe and Lecher continue to lead the way, taking home medalist honors,” said North head coach Dan Borns.

Senior Nick Stewart followed with a 42, while senior Charles Murray shot a 44. Brennan Coy and Trevor Crites each added a 48.

Anthony Bond led the Spartans with a 45.

North defeated the Spartans in the junior varsity match, 194-270. Senior David Bokelman, Blake Fehrman and Zach Johnson each carded a 48 for their team. Brian Williamson shot a 50, Arek Holloway carded a 56 and Lane Geis chipped in a 57.

Borns applauded Johnson for shooting from more than 100 yards away for “a rather slick eagle.”

Chet Mudd led the JV Spartans with a 52.

“The boys will continue to try and build upon scores like we had this evening as we progress through the season,” said Borns.

The Charger linksters next compete in a against Oldenburg Academy and Waldron at Hillcrest Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
