A pair of school records fell Tuesday as the North Decatur track and field teams visited Batesville.
Batesville’s girls won with a score of 128. The Lady Chargers were second with 54, Jac-Cen-Del was third with 32 and Hauser was fourth with 26.
The Lady Chargers were again led by senior Jenna Meyer in the throws, and freshman Megan Hoover in the distance races. Both girls set school records. Meyer improved her school record in the shot put to 35 feet, seven inches. Megan Hoover broke the long-standing 3200-meter run record, held by Hannah Favors, by one second with a 12:27.56. Meyer added a win in the discus with 101-01, and Megan added a second in the 1600 with a time of 5:42.79.
Both girls are in pursuit of those school records as well, according to coach Mark Burry.
Senior Veronica Yager also gained a victory in the 800-meter run (2:48) in her first individual race of the season. Yager had just returned from an ankle injry she suffered during the basketball season.
Senior Katie Stevens added two third-place finishes in the 100 and 200 races.
Burry said several freshmen added significant places. Kaylee Rosenbach finished fifth in both hurdles. Baili Ewing finished fifth in the 400 and the long jump. Carmen Zavala finished fourth in the 200.
Sophomores Laura Haunert and Allie Louder added a third in the 400 and a second in the discus, respectively.
The 4x100 relay of Carmen Zavala, Yager, Meyer, and Stevens, finished secod behind Batesville. The 4x400 relay of Haunert, Rosenbach, Yager, and Stevens finished second behind Batesville.
Nielsen leads North boys
Batesville’s boys won with a score of 116. Hauser took second with a 46, while North and Jac-Cen-Del tied for third with 40 each.
Kevin Nielsen led the Charger boys with two second-place performances and a third. Nielsen finished second in both hurdles, with a personal best of 43.81 in the 300 hurdles and a 17.94 in the 110 high hurdles. He added a third in the high jump with 5-08.
Senior Nick Gehrich tallied a third in the discus and a fifth in the 100 dash.
Derek Hocker placed fourth in the 110 high hurdles and a fifth in the long jump.
Eric Moorman finished third in the 1600 and second in the 3200.
Brady Holloway took fourth in the 1600 and fifth in the 800.
Evan Wallpe finished fourth in the shot put and Brian Malone took fifth in the 400. Gage Acton took third in the 3200.
The 4x800 relay of Gage Acton, Kaleb Kramer, Brady Holloway, and Eric Moorman took third.
The 4x100 relay of Derek Hocker, Andres Zapata, Brian Malone, and Nick Gehrich took second.
The Chargers will host the Decatur County Meet with Greensburg and South Decatur next Tuesday, April 30.
