Pirate track teams compete in tri meet at S. Dearborn

The Greensburg track and field teams competed in a tri meet at South Dearborn Wednesday. The Pirates traveled to Aurora and competed against host South Dearborn and Jennings County, while the girls competed against South Dearborn.

Greensburg’s girls dominated throughout the meet, beating South Dearborn 73-58.

According to Greensburg girls coach Katina Tekulve, nearly every Greensburg athlete earned a ribbon and contributed greatly to the final score.

“It was an incredible team effort to pull off such a big win against a competitive team,” said Tekulve.

New personal records were set by freshman Michaela Myers in her leg of the 4x800, freshman Rylie Smith in long jump and senior Mary Kamman in shot put.

Four Lady Pirates won multiple events. Sophomore Shelby Pake and Rylie Smith won three, while Mary Kamman and sophomore Taylor McIntosh won two.

Pake won the 800-meter run in 2:42.3, the 1600 (5:54.7) and the 3200 (13:08).

Smith won two hurdle events. She took the 100 hurdles in 17.8 seconds, and the 300 hurdles in 19. Smith also competed in a field event and won the long jump with a distance of 13-04.5.

Kamman won two throwing events. She took the shot put with a mark of 34-10 and won the discus throw with a mark of 103-07.

McIntosh won the 100 dash in 12.8 seconds and the 200 in 27.6.

The quartet of sophomore Alyssa Allen, Michaela Myers, Abby Layman and Shelby Pake, took the 4x800 relay in a time of 11:33.2.

The Lady Pirates tallied six second-place finishes. McIntosh was second in the 400 dash in 1:07.3. Junior Cara Zeigler took second in the 300 hurdles in 57.5 seconds. Freshman Arieaunna Hampton was second in the high jump with a mark of 4-10.

In throws, freshman Erin Browning was second in the shot put (31-03) and second in the discus (72-06).

The 4x400 relay of Layman, freshman Brooke Martin, Zeigler and Allen, was second in 5:08.8.
