The Greensburg boys golf team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 161-166 win over conference rival Connersville Friday night.
Despite not shooting the scores the Pirates are capable of, they battled to notch a hard-fought win.
“This was a great team win for us tonight,” said Greensburg head coach Bryce Mize. “Did we leave some strokes out there? Yeah, but I was really proud of the way we kept ourselves together to finish with good scores. To play that well this early into the season is a great accomplishment.”
Senior Sam Marsh shared meet medalist honors with Connersville’s Evan Pflum with matching 38s.
“Sam had a great round to lead the way for us,” said Mize of the outing’s team leader. “The rest of the guys all played good enough rounds to get us the win.”
Also scoring for the Pirates were the sophomore trio of Keegan McCullough (40), Reid Domingo (41), and Maverick Jones (42). Also competing for Greensburg were Cody Bausback (43), Michael Blankman (46), and Trevor Stapp (46).
Connersville scoring: Chandler Creech 39, Logan Keller 44, Tyler Kendall 45, Jake Hackleman 48, Chandler Graves 48, and Aaron Bernzott 50.
“Connersville is a great team that we'll have to contend with in the conference this year,” said Mize of the Spartans. “I'm sure they'll be ready when the conference meet comes around.”
Greensburg looks to continue its strong start next week with road matches at Shelbyville and East Central.
