The Greensburg varsity baseball team improved to 6-0 on the season with big wins in the past two nights.
The Pirates defeated Franklin County 7-1 before shutting out Jennings County Friday.
Senior Collin Rigney picked up the win Thursday as the Pirates never trailed after taking an early lead. Senior Macy Holdsworth hit a 2-run home run to left-center field in the first inning, and the home team added to the lead.
Friday night, senior Tom Lawrence led the Pirates on the mound. He held the Panthers to one hit over seven innings.
Austin Kane’s sacrifice fly in the first inning got the Pirates on the board early after senior Bryce Bennett started the action with a single.
Greensburg later scored on a balk and an error, and Macy Holdsworth added a solo home run in the sixth inning to ice the win.
Holdsworth tallied all three of Greensburg’s hits, adding two doubles.
Lawrence allowed zero walks and struck out six batters.
“Outstanding outing for Tom,” said Greensburg head coach Scott Holdsworth. “He bounced back and threw it really, really well for us. He threw first-pitch strikes and got ahead of the count. It looked like he gained confidence every inning. It was good to see.”
