Pirate JV softball falls to Wildcats
By Nick Gonnella
The Greensburg junior varsity softball team suffered its worst loss of the season to Jennings County, a strong team that beat the Pirates 7-4 in the first meeting.
Once Jennings County took the lead in the second inning, the Panthers led the rest of the way. The Panthers scored two runs in the second, five more in the third, and put up a three-spot in each of the final two innings.
Whitney Tallent fell to 4-4 with the loss. She allowed seven earned runs in five innings, gave up 10 hits and two home runs. Seven errors, a hit batter, a wild pitch and two passed balls hurt Greensburg along the way.
The Panthers hit two home runs and committed just two errors.
Tallent led Greensburg with two singles, while Allie Geis added a single.
Jennings County pitching held the Pirates to just three hits with two earned runs, striking out 11 batters and hitting one.
“This was our worst game of the year, but time to regroup for next week,” said Wilhoit last week. “Franklin County comes a calling on Tuesday, and then a rematch at Batesville Thursday. I hope the rains hold off for this very busy week again.”
