---- — The South Decatur softball team had an active weekend with one game Friday and two on Saturday.
South fell to Milan 4-2 Friday.
South led 4-2 going into the sixth inning, but Milan scored seven runs on seven hits to overtake the Lady Cougars.
Milan tallied 14 hits, while South had 11 hits and five errors.
Senior Courtney Billingsley had a good night at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two singles, a double and an RBI.
Other hitting stats: Brittany Koors-2 singles and an RBI; Brooke Helms-single; Julia Miller-single; Olivia Rigby-double; Ashley Johannigman-single; Morgan Eden-double.
“Overall we played well,” said South head coach Lisa Huff. “We hit the ball extremely well, but left several runners on base. Defensively we played better, but we still need to cut back on our miscues.”
Milan beat South 27-6 in the JV game.
Hitting: Katy Caudill-double and RBI; Sydney Callahan-single; Olivia Rigby-double; Sierra Deppe-2 singles; Mackenzie Kopplin-single; Brittany Koors-single and RBI; Natasha Bruce-double and RBI.
Rising Sun beat South 21-0 in Saturday’s first game on the strength of 18 hits.
South tallied three hits, but committed 10 errors.
“Rising Sun is a very good ball team,” said Huff. “They hit the ball extremely well, but you cannot commit 10 errors when you are playing a good team.”
Senior Elizabeth Hedger, junior Brittany Koors and senior Tayler Noble each tallied a single.
The second game was played as a junior varsity game. Rising Sun beat South 23-1.
Koors tripled, singled and drove in a run, while Mackenzie Kopplin hit a double and Natasha Bruce added a single.
