Everything came together for the North Decatur varsity baseball team Tuesday night.
Neither the driving rain nor the high winds slowed down the Chargers’ spirits, as the hosts tallied an 8-1 win over Southwestern-Shelby.
First-year head coach Ryan Pahl attributed North’s first win of the season to solid play in all three facets of the game.
“We threw strikes, played the field and hit the ball,” he said. “We did come out a little flat, but we got ourselves going and played real well.”
The visiting Spartans scored first, plating a run before North responded to make it 4-1.
Sophomore catcher Donovan Meyer teamed with the middle infield to catch two runners stealing and kill a late Spartan rally.
Alex Crowe pitched a complete game, tossing seven innings for the win.
“Alex pitched real well tonight,” said Pahl of the right-hander.
