Pirate junior high girls unbeaten

The Greensburg Junior High Track teams traveled to Jennings County and met tough competition. Both teams prevailed. The girls won 64-41.

The highlight of the evening was a new track record set in the girls’ shot put by Keirsten Lynette with a toss of 38 feet, three inches. According to coach Sue Burkhart, the impressive throw broke the record that was made back in 1987 with 37-08 by Debbie Heger.

“I knew that Keirsten had the potential and she worked very hard to achieve it!” exclaimed Burkhart.

The girls team finished undefeated for the season 7-0.

Undefeated individuals are: Ashlynn Meyer in the 100m Hurdles, Cameron Jones in both the 800m and 1600m and Keirsten Lynette in the shot put. The 800m team of Cameron Jones, Morgan Winkler, and Cathy Newhart has swept all season, taking all places. The 4x200m relay team also was undefeated all season. Team members are: Ashlynn Meyer, Kayla Davis, Bailey Meyer, and Ashley Bower. The 4x400m relay also never lost all season, members are: Ashlynn Meyer, Cathy Newhart, Bailey Meyer, Cameron Jones, and Morgan Winkler.

“Fantastic job to all athletes!” exclaimed Burkhart.

Girls’ Varsity results:

The girls swept four events and all the relays. In the hurdles, 1. Ashlynn Meyer 16.16, Bailey Meyer in second 16.44 and third place Ashley Bower 17.37. 1600m: 1 Cameron Jones 5:51.70, 2. Cathy Newhart 6:02.00, 3. Morgan Winkler, 6:11.00. 800m, 1. Cameron Jones 2:40.13, 2. Morgan Winkler 2:46.83. 3. Cathy Newhart 2:38.00.

In the 400m Bailey Meyer was 2nd with 1:04.95, 3rd place Ashlynn Meyer 1:06.3.

Stats are:

In the 200m Kayla Davis finished third in 28.97. Shot put winners were: 1. Keirsten Lynette 38-03; 2. Laura Grimes 30-09.5. In discus, Lynette was top winner with 98 feet, and 2nd place Taylor Klene with 786-0.5. High jump, 1. Kyra Whitaker with 4-09.

• 4x800 relay, 13:00.97, team of Allison Ralston, Logan Hamer, Delaney Bruns, Reagan White

• 4x400 relay was won with 4:44.48, team of Cameron Jones, Bailey Meyer, Ashlynn Meyer, Cathy Newhart.
