Cougars rebound against visiting Medora

Greensburg — The South Decatur boys basketball team bounced back from Saturday’s loss with a 70-59 win over visiting Medora.

The Cougars scored one point less than their season high. South led 32-23 at the half, and held on in the third quarter before pulling away later in the second half.

South protected a one-point lead for half of the first quarter, then converted the advantage to double digits. Consecutive baskets by seniors Devin Taylor and Kaleb Cunningham made it 10-5, and junior Jordan Ortman sent a steal home to make it 14-5.

Senior Taylor Kopplin and junior Nick Schwering then deposited back-to-back 3-pointers to give South a 20-9 lead with 56 seconds left in the first period.

Medora went on a 10-1 run after South had built its largest lead of the half. Leading just 21-19, three of South’s seniors responded with scores. Kopplin, Taylor and senior Andrew Wullenweber all hit rebound baskets to make it 27-19 in favor of the home team.

Schwering hit his second triple of the night to give South a 32-23 lead.

South’s junior varsity team won 57-45. Drew Taylor led South with 19 points, including five 3-pointers. Nick Benge followed with 13 points and Brendan Henderson scored eight, including a pair of treys.

Complete statistics of both games will be available in a future print edition and online.
