Pirate track teams notch wins

Greensburg — The Greensburg track and field teams competed in a 3-way meet Thursday before hosting Saturday’s Crossbones Relays.

The East Central boys beat Batesville 75.5-64.5. Greensburg’s boys scored 27 points for third place.

Winning individually for the Pirates were senior Pete Myers in the shot put and junior Sean Sellers in the high jump. Myers tallied a shot put measurement of 44 feet, eight inches, while Sellers measured six feet, five inches in the high jump.

“Overall, a good start to the season for the team,” said head coach Mike Myers.

Led by Myers win in the shot put, Greensburg took the sweep in that event. Senior Ryan Martin took second, Kyle Redelman third and senior Colin Evans fourth.

Two Pirates placed second individually. Senior Ryan Martin took second in the shot put, while senior Chase McCreary was second in the 400-meter run. Taking third was senior Colin Evans in the discus; McCreary in the 800; and Peyton Buening in the 400. Fourth-place finishes were senior Shane Ploeger in the long jump and Cody McConnell in the 110-meter hurdles.



Pirates host Crossbones Relays

Greensburg hosted the Crossbones Relays Saturday. Competing in Greensburg’s first home meet were Columbus North, East Central, Madison, Connersville, Franklin County, Oldenburg Academy and Pendleton Heights.

No individual relay titles were won by the Pirates, but coach Mike Myers noted “many solid performances throughout day.” Two second place finishes were captured in the field events. In the shot put, the duo of Pete Myers and Ryan Martin combined for 85-06. Junior Sean Sellers and senior Shane Ploeger combined for 11-04 in the high jump.

Other placers were:  4x800-meter relay, 4th - Chase McCreary, Peyton Buening, Francis Teague and Logan Yeager.

Discus, 3rd - Colin Evans and Kevin Beaver 220-02; 6th David Booker and Nathan Hayes 192-05.5.

Shot Put, 5th - Kyle Redelman and Colin Evans 78-04.5.

Distance Medley relay, 5th - Buening, Teague, McCreary and Michael Back 12:13.

Sprint Medley Relay, 4th Averi Fultz, senior Ethan Amburgy, Evans and McCreary.

Throwers 4x100m Relay, 6th - Evans, Myers, Booker and Martin.

4x100m relay, 5th - Fultz, Amburgy, Ploeger and Sellers.

4x200m relay, 3rd - Fultz, Amburgy, Dillon Able and Sellers.

4x400m relay, 4th - Amburgy, Teague, Buening and McCreary.

The Pirates travel to Decatur Central Friday night for the Twilight Invite.

The Lady Pirates earned ribbons in three relay events Saturday.

The 4x200 relay team of Jessica Hensley, Taylor McIntosh, Cara Zeigler and Kasey Moeller, took fourth. The 4x100 team of McKella Lynette, McIntosh, Zeigler and Moeller, took fifth. The sprint medley relay of Lynette, McIntosh, Zeigler and Moeller, also took fifth.

The Lady Pirates compete again Friday Night in Decatur Central for the Twilight Invite.
