---- — The South Decatur cross country runners competed at Morristown Tuesday afternoon.
South’s boys took second, scoring 34 points to the Yellow Jackets’ 21.
South’s girls were incomplete, while Morristown’s girls scored 25.
Highlighting the performances for the South boys was Justyn Clark’s personal best time of 17:59, which won the meet for him.
South head coach Bethany Fromer said she is pleased to see Clark excel and expects him to keep improving.
“I hope to keep him dropping his time from here,” she said. “We are working hard.”
The next Cougar to finish was Nick Grissom, with a sixth-place time of 21:34. Senior Brandon Overlock tallied a 23:43 for eighth, while senior Tyler Wamsley clocked a 23:47 for a close ninth.
Daniel Mapes finished 10th in 24:47.
Leading the South girls was sophomore Ashley Hamilton.
She clocked a 23:32 for first place. Emily Mapes followed with a third-place 25:49, Staci Fox clocked a 28:10 for seventh and senior Paje Smiley recorded a 37:03 for ninth.
The South harriers will compete in the Rushville Invitational Saturday.
