Pirate frosh softball wins second in 5 years

Greensburg — The Greensburg freshman softball squad, which consists of only the JV freshman, played a double-header against Whiteland Saturday. Greensburg fell 22-9 in the first game and won 16-13 in the second.

In the loss, Renee Kramer was the victim of eight errors and 13 walks. Kelsie Fischer and Whitney Tallent also pitched.

Greensburg tallied eight hits, with Fischer leading her team with two. Bri Foster, Renee Kramer, Whitney Tallent, Maddy Schroeder, Macy Kaiser and Rebecca Caddell each had singles.

In the 16-13 second-game win, Greensburg trailed by six going into the bottom of the sixth inning, before scoring 10 runs for the win.

Greensburg tallied 17 hits. Tallent and Paige Clemons each had three hits. Shanda Workman, Allie Geis, Schroeder and Fischer each had two hits for Kramer, Nicole Ploeger and Rebecca Caddell each chipped in with singles.

Tallent pitched a complete game for the freshman squad’s first win of the season and second in five years. She struck out four, walked six and hit one batter. Eight of the 13 runs were earned.

Greensburg hosts North Decatur Wednesday night at 5 p.m. and East Central visits Thursday. The JV squad will play East Central after the  5 p.m. varsity game.
