North, South track teams compete in MHC

Waldron — The North Decatur and South Decatur track and field teams competed in the Mid-Hoosier Conference track and field championships Tuesday night. Waldron hosted the nine-team tournament.

North Decatur’s girls took second place with 93.5 points, while South Decatur’s boys took fifth with 56 points. South’s girls took eight with 22 points, and North’s boys took eighth with 35.

Eastern Hancock won the girls conference championship with 163 points. Winning for the boys, in a tie, were Indian Creek and Eastern Hancock with 119 apiece.

Highlighting the night for the North girls, senior Jenna Meyer and freshman Megan Hoover each turned in conference-winning performances. Hoover won the one-mile (5:44.01) and two-mile runs (12:35.76). Meyer tallied an MHC title in the discus.

Hoover placed second in the 800-meter run with a personal best of 2:29.12, and anchored the 4x800 relay team to a third-place finish.

In all, Hoover was involved in 34 of the 93.5 team points.

Jenna Meyer broke her previous school record in the shot put by two feet to place second in the shot with a 37-09.5. Meyer also won the discus, making her an 18-point contributor.

The North 4x100-meter relay team of Carmen Zavala, senior Katie Stevens, Laura Haunert and senior Veronica Yager, took fifth place with a time of 56.87. The 4x400 relay was fifth with a PR of 4:44.75 (Baili Ewing, Stevens, Kaylee Rosenbach and Haunert). The 4x800 of Emily Kissel, Haunert, Hoover and Yager placed third (11:29).

Allie Louder placed fourth in the discus (92-01).

Veronica Yager took sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:17.89, a personal best.

Carmen Zavala placed in two events for North. She was sixth in the 100 dash (14.03) and sixth in the 200 (29.61), which was a PR. Laura Haunert also was sixth in the 400 dash (1:10.45).

Rosenbach placed fifth in the 100 hurdles (18.70) and fifth in the high jump (four feet, eight inches). Ewing took fifth in the long jump (13-09.5).

Katie Stevens set a PR in the 200 (30.14).

Setting a PR in the 1600 was Emily Scott, 7:05.73. Nicole Scott had a PR of 19:25.32.
