North, South track teams compete in MHC


Waldron — North’s Nielsen sets school record

Highlighting the outing for the North boys, Kevin Nielsen led the Chargers again as their lone conference champion. He contributed to 22 of the boys’ 35 team points. Nielsen won the 100m dash with a PR time of 11.58. He also set the new school record in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 41.79, previously held by Bryce Cook, to place third. Nielsen took sixth in the high jump (5-06) and anchored the 4x400 relay team to a sixth-place finish.

All six Decatur County relay teams scored points by placing. The South 4x100 relay of Chris Johannigman, Chris Meadows, Josh Campos and Randall Canady, took fourth (46.81). The South 4x800 relay of Meadows, Justyn Clark, Sam Studler and Tristin Ralph, took fifth in 9:17.83.

The North 4x400 relay of Brady Holloway, Curtis Hillebrand, Nielsen and Winston Miley, took sixth with a personal-best of 3:53.88. The North 4x800 relay of Hollway, Curtis Hillebrand, Eric Moorman and senior Kaleb Kramer, took sixth with a PR time of 9:33.87.

North’s 4x100 relay of Brian Malone, Derek Hocker, senior Nick Gehrich and Miley was seventh in 50.13.

The South 4x400 team of Jarod Wagner, Campos, Sam Studler and Tristin Ralph, was seventh in 4:17.85.

For North’s boys, Nick Gehrich placed eighth in the discus throw with a mark of 117-09.

Hillebrand set two PR’s. He placed eighth in the 400 dash (57.11) and ran PR of 25.26 in the 200. Brian Malone added a PR of 26.26 in the 200.

Kaleb Kramer tallied a PR of 2:33.94 in the 800. Derek Hocker set a PR in the 300 hurdles (53.17).

Two Charger boys placed in the 1600. Brady Holloway set a PR of 5:05.61 for seventh, while Eric Moorman was eighth in 5:13.30. Moorman was sixth in the 3200 in 11:42.86.

Gage Acton set a PR in the 3200 in 12:04.94.

For South’s boys, Campos took second in the 200-meter dash finals in 24.27. Luke May placed second in the discus with a mark of 132-09, and fourth in the shot put (39-08.5).

Chris Meadows placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (17.44), and sixth in the 300 hurdles (44.81). Byron Haley placed sixth (17.87), and Tyler Wamsley took eighth (45.60).

Sam Studler took fifth in the 400 dash in 55.45.

Randall Canady placed sixth in the 200 (24.65) and eighth in the 100 (12.27).

Shea Ogle took eighth in the shot put (38-05.5).

For the South girls, Paige Wilmer ran a personal best in the 100, running for third place in 13.76. She set a PR in the 300-meter hurdles (59.60, eighth), and placed fifth in the long jump (13-11.5) Ashley Hamilton tallied a fifth-place personal best in the mile run (6:20.17) and a seventh-place PR in the 800 (2:49.69). Hamilton also placed seventh in the 3200 (14:23.16).

Olivia Watkins took eighth in the 100 hurdles.

Anekah Bower tallied a PR in the shot put. Tearra Taylor notched a PR in the discus, a 78-02.5, and Lexie Armand posted a PR of 28-01 in the shot put.

Girls team standings:  1. Eastern Hancock 163; 2. North Decatur 93.5; 3. Indian Creek 76.5; 4. Southwestern Shelby 70; 5. Hauser 49; 6. Waldron 47; 7. Morristown 35; 8. South Decatur 22; 9. Edinburgh 20.

Combined team scores:  1. Eastern Hancock 282; 2. Indian Creek 195.5; 3. Waldron 150; 4. North Decatur 128.5; 5. Morristown 95; 6. Hauser 88; 7. Southwestern Shelby 82; 8. South Decatur 78; 9. Edinburgh 59.
