The Greensburg boys soccer team avenged two regular-season losses to Batesville with a 3-2 victory Wednesday in the Batesville Sectional 59 Semifinal. The game went into a shootout and sudden death.
Greensburg will play Oldenburg Academy Saturday at 2 p.m. in the final. OA beat Hauser 2-0 in first game.
Batesville scored twice in the opening period. The first Batesville goal was scored at 27:19. Batesville was awarded a kick from the corner when a Greensburg player kicked the ball while he was on the ground and keeper Austin Schultz blocked the kick with a punch, but Batesville's Prickel followed and put the ball into the net.
Batesville's second goal of the first period was at 00:44 when Greensburg was called for a handball in the box and Osante scored the PK.
Greensburg scored their first goal when senior Tyler Burcham put the ball into the net unassisted at 16:30. Later Burcham scored his second goal at 1:14 on a nice cross by Kyle Howard.
The score at the end of regulation was 2-2.
Nobody scored in the two, seven-minute overtime periods.
At the end of the first shootout it was 4-4 as both the Greensburg and Batesville keepers got one save.
The shootout then went to sudden death. Greensburg senior Chase McCreary scored first and then Greensburg keeper senior Austin Schultz blocked Batesville's Osante's shot for the win. The result of the shootout was Greensburg 5, Batesville 4.
Tyler Burcham had two goals and Kyle Howard had one assist for the match.
