Lady Pirates rule Bulldogs 13-3

Greensburg — The Greensburg varsity softball team tallied another win over Batesville, putting away the hosts early in a 13-3 run-ruled victory.

The Lady Pirates ripped 13 hits, while freshman Haylee Owens continued her successful first season in the varsity circle.

Nine different Pirates scored for Greensburg, while seven different Pirates recorded a hit and seven drove in at least one run.

“It was a good team win tonight,” said head coach Jake Shook. “After a week off with no games, it was good to see the girls come out ready to play.”

Greensburg (9-3) scored twice in each of the first two innings, and lowered the hammer on the Bulldogs with nine runs in the third frame. In fact, Greensburg led 13-0 before Batesville mustered a run. The Bulldogs scored in the fourth inning and added two more in the bottom of the fifth, but Owens and the Pirates were able to secure the short outing.

Junior Chelsea Hersley led Greensburg with a 4-for-4 day at the plate. She also scored and drove in a run.

Senior Alli Phillips went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI, while Owens hit 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Scoring twice and driving in two apiece were sophomore Britney Biltz and freshman Sydney Meyer. Junior Megan Schmidt also scored twice, adding a hit and an RBI. Driving in one run was sophomore Keauna Schultz, who also drew a team-high two walks.

Freshman Gabby Burton added a run and a hit and junior Kalynne Asche scored a run.

Junior Emma Wolter scored twice as a courtesy runner.

Greensburg struck out just once – ironically the only strikeout being Biltz’s first of the season. Biltz had gone the first 11 games without going down on strikes.
