St. Leon —
The Greensburg girls tennis team fell to East Central 4-1 in St. Leon Thursday.
Despite a three-game losing streak, head coach Gary Bailey is encouraged by what he sees from the team.
“At one point it looked like we were going to win the match,” he said. “I’m seeing improvement every match. I really saw it tonight. I thought they play a good match.”
Five of East Central’s seven players are seniors, and each Lady Trojan has played at least two years in the lineup.
Sophomore Danielle Schroeder defeated Abby Sweeney 6-3, 6-4 at first singles.
Senior Kaeli Fong at second singles lost to Conner Struewing 1-6, 6-4, 6-1.
Junior Claire Welage lost to Alyssa DeFiglio 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 at third singles in a contest that Bailey called “a marathon match.”
