Greensburg — The South Decatur varsity softball team played an extra-innings game Friday night. The Lady Cougars fell to Triton Central 5-2 in eight innings.
The Lady Tigers scored two runs in the first inning, but South rallied for a run in the fourth as senior Tayler Noble hit a double to plate senior Julia Miller. In the sixth, junior Brittany Koors drove in senior Lizzie Hedger with a double to tie the game.
The Tigers, though, scored three in the top of the eighth for the win.
Hedger added a double along with Koors and Noble. Sophomore Morgan Eden chipped in a single.
Triton Central out-hit South 7-4.
The Tigers committed one error, while South made three on a day the offense struggled to put up runs. According to head coach Lisa Huff, the Cougars left two runners on base in the sixth inning with no out, but failed to score.
“Overall we played much better defensively,” said Huff. “I was pleased with our defensive effort. We cut down on mistakes and made some very nice plays. Hopefully our hitting will come around.”
