Greensburg — The South Decatur softball team defeated visiting Southwestern (Shelby) 5-0 Thursday night.

South scored two runs in the first inning. Junior Lizzie Hedger hit and stole second base. Junior Courtney Billingsley reached on a dropped third strike, and Hedger scored on a passed ball. Sophomore Brittany Koors scored Billingsley on a sacrifice fly.

Senior RayAnn Noble reached on an error in the third inning and stole second. Hedger reached on an error, Noble scored on a passed ball, and Hedger scored on another Koors sacrifice.

South wrapped the scoring in the fifth. Noble hit a triple to the fence, and scored on Hedger’s sacrifice.

“It’s nice to get another win,” said head coach Lisa Huff.

Hedger gave up one hit, struck out five and gave up two walks. The Lady Cougars played error-free defense.

“Lizzie pitched really well,” said Huff.

Junior Ashley Johannigman stepped up with an alert defensive play to kill a Spartan run. She caught a fly ball, then threw to the infield to double off a runner.

Southwestern committed five errors.

South plays Greensburg Monday for a cross-county game, Edinburgh Tuesday, then Brown County Wednesday.
