Greensburg — The Greensburg varsity girls softball team fell to Columbus North Wednesday 9-1 at home.

The Bulldogs scored five runs in the second inning on four straight singles and an error.

After the first nine Lady Pirates were retired, Audrey Geis led off the fourth inning with a single and stole second base. Shelby Ward then drove in Geis with a single.

Greensburg stranded Chelsea Hersley at third base in the bottom of the fourth, and senior Channon Brown, who courtesy ran for Keauna Schultz, was left at second base in the fifth.

Columbus North scored once more in the fourth and three more in the sixth. The visitors tallied 12 hits and were aided by two Greensburg errors.

The Lady Pirates suffered a rare quiet day at the plate, striking out 11 times and walking once. Greensburg’s two hits were off the bats of Geis and Ward in the same inning.

Senior Clare Owens and Schultz tallied two walks.

Freshman Whitney Tallent took the loss on the mound. Six of the nine runs were earned. She struck out a batter and walked just one.

The fourth-ranked Pirates, now 12-6 on the season, next compete Saturday in the Greenfield Invitational.
