Pirate C-Team plays two on road

Greensburg Daily News

— The Greensburg baseball C-Team traveled to Madison and lost in the seventh inning by the score of 5-4.

Spencer Burkert took the mound and threw “a very good five innings for us,” according to head coach Andrew Ruble, allowing only two earned runs and two hits on the day. He also struck out two hitters.

Alex Pokrzywinski, Austin Kane, and Nick Hughes all had one hit apiece to lead the Pirates.

Even though the Pirates only had three hits, Ruble said they still found ways on the base paths and took full advantage by plating four runs without walking at all. The Pirates scored two runs in the top of the sixth to take a one-run advantage, but allowed two in the bottom of the inning to end up losing by one.

“I am proud how the kids fought back today!” exclaimed coach Andrew Ruble.

Greensburg traveled to Connersville last Thursday and came away with a 9-3 loss. Alex Pokrzywinski took the mound and threw four solid innings, striking out three hitters and giving up six runs.

“Even though they scored six runs, Alex pitched great and kept his composure through some mental mistakes the Pirates made tonight,” said Ruble.

David Lawrence came in relief and pitched two innings for the Pirates, allowing four hits and three runs. Spencer Burkert led the Pirates with two hits, while Lawrence, Kyle Howard, Pokrzywinski, and Nick Hughes each recorded one hit apiece.

The Pirates were scheduled to host Jennings County Thursday.
