Lady Pirate netters split past two

Greensburg — The Greensburg girls varsity tennis team split its past two outings.

The Lady Pirates fell to Batesville 4-1 Monday at home, moving their record to 3-6.

At first singles, sophomore Danielle Schroeder beat Ellen Heppner 4-6, 6-4, 6-0.

Senior Kaeli Fong at second singles lost to Lydia Olsen 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Junior Claire Welage at third singles fell to Sarah Hoseus 6-1, 6-0.

At first doubles, Courtney Nelson and Caroline Pratt lost to Emily Helvie and Kelli Hartman 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Freshman Abby Bailey and sophomore Olivia Slusher at second doubles fell to Brooke Bradford and Emily Shaw 6-0, 6-1.

Greensburg head coach Gary Bailey noted the limited amount of experience that challenged his team during matches.

"We win the first sets and can't close out matches," he said. "It's just a matter of inexperience."

In junior varsity action, Sydney Reynolds and Mackenzie Kovacich teamed up for a doubles win.
