The Greensburg Junior High School girls track teams competed at the Sunman Dearborn Invitational May 7. Greensburg ran with six other teams, South Dearborn, Columbus Central, Greendale, Batesville, Sunman Dearborn, Union County.
The girls had a fantastic and exciting night, according to coach Sue Burkhart, winning the Invite with 143 points - 67 points more than second-place Sunman Dearborn.
“The girls team was focused and remained strong through every event,” said Burkhart.
Points were awarded to first through sixth places.
First place and medal winners were: Haleigh Reed in 1600m and 800m, Valerie Busto in the 100m, Bailey Meyer in the 400m, Keirsten Lynette in the discus and Kirstin Hersley in the pole vault. In the 4x400m relay, team of Bailey Meyer, Cameron Jones, April Morrow and Haleigh Reed.
Each year the meet has a “Most Valuable Person” and this year’s winner for the girls was from Greensburg - Haleigh Reed. She won the 1600m, 800m, and was a part of the 4x400 meter relay that claimed first place.

Cameron Jones came third in the 800m with 2:37.13. 1600m, 3. Morgan Winkler with 5:59.18 and 2:41. Long Jump, 2. Rylie Smith with 14-01 and Montana Whitaker 11th with 12-05.5.
200m, 3. Valeria Busto 29.81, 5. Rylie Smith 30.41. Shot put 2. Keirsten Lynette 30-06. 3. Sydney Meyer 30-04. 1. Discus, Keirsten Lynnette 82-02, 3. Sydney Meyer 70-07. High jump 6. Elaine Welage 4-02; 10. Emma Hellmich 4-0. 400m, 1. Bailey Meyer 1:06.62, 7. Ashlynn Meyer 1:11.54.
Pole vault, 1. Kirstin Hersley 7-0, 3. Ellie Kramer 6-06.
For the relays, the 4x200 relay: 3. Rylie Smith, Ashley Bower, Bailey Meyer, and Cameron Jones 2:03.09. The 4x400 relay was won with 4:35.99 team of Bailey Meyer, Cameron Jones, April Morrow, and Haleigh Reed. 3. 4x100m relay team of Kayla Davis, Tess Luers, Valeria Busto, and Gabby Burton with 58.89.
Pirate boys place second
The Greensburg boys track team had a terrific night, noted coach Sue Burkhart, with many of them setting their own personal records. They came ready to compete and came in second place at the Invite with 87 points. Columbus Central won the Invite with 138. Other teams competing were South Dearborn, Franklin County, Greendale, Batesville, Union County and Sunman Dearborn. Points were awarded to the first through sixth places. Champion and medal winner was Greg Schroeder in the 800m.
