Morristown — The North Decatur girls basketball team suffered a road loss Tuesday to Morristown, falling 66-55 to a conference opponent.

The Lady Chargers are now 8-6 after dropping their last three games. North is in the middle of playing a stretch of six straight games on the road, which hasn’t been kind to head coach Brad Bryant’s squad.

“Every team, no matter how good they are, is going to have their struggles,” said Bryant. “We were playing some really good basketball up to the break. When the weather hit, we lost some of our rhythm.

"It hurt us, practice, conditioning and shooting-wise. We’ve played some good teams lately. There’s just a little rustiness, which all teams would have. We have a good, solid month left of the season left, and we’re going to start getting ready for the sectional tournament.”

Against Morristown, senior Abby Lamb led her team with a career-high tying 16 points Tuesday. She shot a 3-pointer and went 3-for-4 at the foul line.

“She probably played as well defensively, and on both sides of the ball, as she ever has,” said Bryant of Lamb.

Sophomore Mary Hughes added 10 points, while senior Alison Wallpe and Anna Wallpe each scored eight. Ali Wallpe shot 6-for-6 from the foul line. Senior Emma Geis scored six, while Sam Krieger scored four. Senior Andrea Volk added two and senior Myra Steele chipped in one.

North (1-4 in Mid-Hoosier Conference) looks to cure its road ills and win its first game of 2014 next Tuesday at Milan (currently 0-13).

“Even though we’ve been in this funk, I’ll compliment the girls,” said Bryant. “They say they want to turn it around and get us to winning basketball again.”

The North junior varsity team won the first game 52-31. Chelsea Hitchcock and Ally Gauck each led North with 10 points. Addy Osting scored nine points, and Morgan Mauer scored eight points (two 3-pointers). Ashlin Weintraut scored four, Morgan Nobbe hit a 3-pointer and Sam Krieger chipped in two.

North’s junior varsity team improves to 8-5 on the season and 3-2 in the Mid-Hoosier Conference.
