The North Decatur boys basketball team hit the road Monday and visited South Ripley for a matchup against two potential sectional opponents.
The host Raiders defeated the Chargers 58-49, despite nine 3-pointers and a big fourth quarter from the visitors.
North (2-6) outscored the Raiders 22-14 in the final eight minutes to make it a single-digit outcome.
The Raiders led 17-13 after the first quarter and 29-18 at the half.
Sophomore Dayne Lecher led North with 16 points, hitting four 3-pointers. Sophomore Arek Holloway continued his sharp shooting with a trio of three’s and 10 total points. Sophomore Luke Badgley added a pair of treys and scored 10 points, while sophomore Evan Wallpe added seven points. Junior Austin Brown scored four points (2-for-3 from foul line) and sophomore Andrew Hocker chipped in two.
North shot 4-for-7 from the foul line.
North’s junior varsity team lost 42-15. South Ripley led 9-0 at the first stop and built on the lead. A 21-5 halftime lead became 31-11 at the end of three quarters.
Ben Kinker led the JV Chargers with eight points, including two 3-pointers. Ignacio Martinez scored three points, while Kyle Kramer and Justin Weisenbach each chipped in two.
