Lady Pirate golfers win on Senior Night

Greensburg — The Greensburg girls golf team celebrated Senior Night Thursday with a tri meet against Batesville and Lawrenceburg at the Greensburg Country Club.

The Lady Pirates tallied a crucial win, 184-194-214, while honoring senior Tori Giddings.

"I'm really excited about the way the girls played tonight," commented Coach Terry Alverson.

Sophomore Britney Biltz carded her first career eagle and tied for medalist with a tournament-tough Madison McCreary Batesville, with a 40.

Also continuing her excellent play, according to Alverson, was Tori Giddings who enjoyed her "senior night" before the match began.

“I've been with Tori through her four years of high school golf and have enjoyed every moment of our time together," said Alverson. "I'm going to miss her next year and wish her the best."

Rounding out the scoring for the Pirates were, " Payten Ewing, 46, Tori and Bri Stagge 50's, Autumn Moster 58, Brittany Lozier 59, Nicole Ploeger 60, Kaitlyn Wickens 63.

Greensburg hosted Columbus East Tuesday at the Greensburg Country Club, losing 175-190. Columbus East's Caroline Smith was medalist with 41.

Biltz was the low for the Pirates with a 44, coming on the heels of a triple bogey on the last hole.

"Britney played outstanding and provided a super highlight to her round when she reduced the par 5 ninth hole to a par 4 with a 10-foot eagle putt," said Alverson.

According to Alverson, Giddings played an “outstanding round of golf” by shooting a season-low 45.

"Tori has been hitting the ball aggressively and it is working out very well for her,” said Alverson.

Rounding out the scoring were Ewing 50, Stagge 51, Moster 57 and Ploeger 58.

“We are starting our September march to the sectional, so practices will become more focused on course strategy and mental toughness,” said Alverson.

The Pirates travel to Brook Hill Golf Course for the EIAC conference meet Saturday at 2 p.m.
