Lady Pirates win on Senior Night

Greensburg — The Greensburg varsity softball team captured another conference win with a 9-4 victory over Lawrenceburg Tuesday. The Lady Pirates celebrated Senior Night, honoring Clare Owens, Audrey Geis, Kayanna Wolter, Lillie Wolter, Shelby Ward and Channon Brown.

Highlighting the 11-hit offensive attack was a two-run home run by Keauna Schultz and an RBI single by Kayanna Wolter to help secure the win.

Greensburg started the action in the third. Geis hit a single and Megan Schmidt was hit by a pitch. Britney Biltz drove in Geis with a single, and Owens followed with a base hit. After Keauna Schultz reached on an error, Schmidt and Biltz scored.

Kalynne Asche and Geis each singled to start the fourth at-bat. Schmidt reached on an error, and Biltz singled in Geis. In the fifth, Ward led off with a hit. Schultz made it 6-0 with her third home run of the season.

Owens singled again to spark the sixth-inning attack. Alli Phillips made it 7-1 with a double, scoring Owens. Ward then sacrificed Emma Wolter, Phillips’ courtesy runner, to make it 8-1. Following singles by Schultz and Lillie Wolter, Kayanna Wolter ripped a single over the infield to score freshman Whitney Tallent for the Pirates’ final run.

Alli Phillips recorded the win as the Pirates improve to 17-8 overall and 6-3 in the Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference. Phillips struck out four batters and walked just one. She retired eight straight out one point, pitching perfect third and fourth innings.

Geis and Asche each went 3-for-4. Biltz and Owens each tallied two hits and a run.
