Greensburg — The Greensburg boys varsity golf team was victorious in a three-way match against Franklin County and Triton Central on the back nine at Greensburg Country Club. The score of 160 was the lowest the Pirates shot all year. Franklin County came in second with a 180, and Triton Central scored a 207.

Sam Marsh was the meet medalist, using four birdies to card an even-par 35.  Also scoring for the Pirates were Reid Domingo (39), Maverick Jones (40), and Tyler Reiger (45).  Cody Bausback carded a 46.

“Sam was unbelievable tonight,” said head coach Bryce Mize. “He did a great job of following bogeys with birdies. It’s not very often that someone will shoot an even-par round when they only have one par. I think that 44 earlier in the week really sparked this performance tonight. The freshmen played great tonight as well.  It’s really exciting seeing this team come together here at the end of the season. Tonight really showed that we can get great scores from anyone in our top six on a given night.”

Earlier in the week, the golf team tallied another conference win against East Central at Greensburg Country Club posting a score of 165-188.

The win improved Greensburg’s conference record to 4-1 and its overall record to 7-6.

Medalist for the match was freshman Keegan McCullough with a 2-over-par 37 on the back nine. Also scoring in the match for the Pirates were Reid Domingo (41), Maverick Jones (43), and Sam Marsh (44). Leading visiting East Central in scoring was Jerrett Maurer with a 45.

Other Greensburg golfers participating in the match were Jake Hellmich (45), Cody Bausback (49), Brandon Butz (49), Michael Blankman (49), Corey Dennett (50), and Bill Neumeier (52).

“I was really proud of our freshmen tonight,” said Mize. “Keegan played great, as he as done a lot at home recently. Reid and Maverick both posted solid scores despite a few struggles here and there. For freshman on a tough course, I really can’t ask for much more than those scores. Marsh didn’t have his best stuff tonight, but he kept his composure really well. It’s nice to know that even on an off day, Sam is capable of scoring for us. I’m confident he’ll get those kinks worked out in no time.”
