Six local girls advance to Regional

Brookville — The Greensburg, North Decatur and South Decatur girls track and field teams competed in the Franklin County Sectional Tournament.

In all, six Decatur County athletes qualified for next Tuesday’s Shelbyville Regionals. Four of the six girls are freshmen.

The Greensburg girls placed fifth out of 12 teams. Three Lady Pirates, junior Mary Kamman, freshman Shelby Pake and freshman Taylor McIntosh, will advance to Regionals in Shelbyville next Tuesday. Kamman placed second in the discus with a new personal record of 108 feet, and fourth in shot with 33-04.5. Pake will also advance to Regionals in the mile and the two-mile. Pake placed third in the 3200 and fourth in the 1600.

McIntosh will also advance in the 100 with a third-place finish and a personal-best time of 13.13.

Top GB scorers:

2nd - Mary Kamman Discus (New PR- 108-0).

3rd - Taylor McIntosh 100 (New PR- 13.13); Shelby Pake 3200.

4th - Shelby Pake 1600; Mary Kamman Shot.

5th - 4x100 McIntosh, McKella Lynnette, Cara Zeigler, Kasey Moeller (Season Best- 54.69); Taylor McIntosh 200.

6th - Kasey Moeller 200.

7th - Brittany Simon High Jump (New PR - 4-10).

8th - Kasey Moeller Long Jump; 4x800 Mary Kate Porter, Abby Layman, Ashton Lunsford, Ericka Carman.

New GB personal records:

100m- Kasey Moeller 13.58

400m- Abby Layman 1:11.18

High Jump- Ericka Carman 4-10

The Lady Chargers posted a sixth place finish out of 13 teams. Senior Jenna Meyer and freshman Megan Hoover each qualified in two events. Meyer advanced in both throwing events, while Hoover advanced in two distance events.

Meyer took third in the discus with a throw of 106-08. She took second in the shot put with a mark of 36-09.

Hoover recorded second places in both the 1600-meter and 3200-meter runs with times of 5:32.54 and 11:56.97, respectively. Hoover improved her previous school record time of 12:24.59 by nearly 28 seconds to take second to Sarah Billingsley of Oldenburg Academy, who nearly broke the sectional record of 11:16.13.

Also qualifying for regional in the high jump with a fourth place was freshman Kaylee Rosenbach with a personal best of 5-00. Rosenbach is also chasing a school record of 5-01, held by Becky Whitaker.

All three relays of the Lady Chargers scored. The 4x800 relay of Emily Scott, Laura Haunert, Emily Kissel, and Megan Hoover took seventh. The 4x400 relay of Baili Ewing, Laura Haunert, Kaylee Rosenbach, and Katie Stevens took eighth (4:55.14), and the 4x100 relay of Carmen Zavala, Jenna Meyer, Laura Haunert and Katie Stevens took eighth (57.59). Taking seventh was the North 4x800 (Haunert, Hoover, Kissel, Emily Scott) in 12:06.59.

South Decatur’s girls competed in the final events of the season. However, a pair of Lady Cougars tallied personal-bests in their respective events. Paige Wilmer tallied a PR of 59.03 in the 300-meter hurdles, and Anekah Bower posted a shot put mark of 26-09 for a personal best.

Tonight’s schedule for the Shelbyville Regionals is set. Field events begin at 6 p.m., trials start at 6:30 and finals are at 7:20 p.m.
