Local runners compete in Rushville Invite

---- — The Greensburg, North Decatur and South Decatur cross country teams competed in the Rushville Invitational Saturday morning.

Oldenburg Academy’s girls won the Division III race. Sarah Billingsley of OA was the individual winner with a time of 19:11.

Batesville was the girls’ Division II winner. In the girls’ Division II race, the Greensburg girls came in fourth out of 19 teams. In the Division III race, North’s girls finished ninth, and South’s girls sent four runners to compete individually.

The female runners from Decatur County acquitted themselves well, overall. Greensburg’s Shelby Pake placed fifth overall in 20:54, her best time of the season. North Decatur sophomore Megan Hoover placed third in the division, clocking a time of 20:13.

South sophomore Ashley Hamilton ran a 22:15 for 11th place.

Also for Greensburg, freshman Alli Reisman lowered her personal best to 22:39 placing 23rd. Ellie Burkhart was the Lady Pirates’ third finisher. She established a new personal record and came in 42nd with a time of 24:06. Senior Erin Hamilton earned 45th place in 24:15. April Morrow was the 5th Greensburg runner to cross the finish line. She was 67th in 25:21. Mary Kate Porter placed 86th in 27:35, and teammate McKinley Bottoms was 99th in 29:46.

North girls results:

3. Megan Hoover 20:13; 58. Haley Wesseler 26:38; 61. Celeste Pacilio 26:45; 64. Emily Kissel 27:03; 72. Kaylee Rosenbach 28:01; 79. Emily Scott 29:32.

South girls results:

11. Ashley Hamilton 22:15; 41. Stacy Fox 25:21; 50. Emily Mapes 26:04; 87. Paje Smiley 33:41.

In the boys’ competition, the Pirates placed eighth out of the 20 teams. The Charger boys placed ninth with 241 points, and the Cougar boys took 14th out of 17 with 325 points. Greensburg senior Ethan Sebastian led the Pirates in 19:27. North’s Eric Moorman led the Chargers with a time of 19:00, and South’s Justyn Clark led the Cougar boys with a time of 18:12.

Greensburg’s Sebastian led a trio of Greensburg runners to the finish. Ethan was 32nd in 19:27. Peyton Buening was 34th in 19:29, and freshman Reid McClintic was 35th in 19:30, his best time ever for 5k. Jonathan Richards was next finisher for the Pirates. He crossed the line 62nd in 20:35, a new personal record. Freshman Louis Moore was 85th in 21:24, his best time of the season. Dylan Barber finished strong and placed 85th in 21:30, while teammate Kevin Johnson was 94th in a time of 22:15.

Wes Del was the boys’ Division III team winner. Curtis Eckstein of OA was the individual winner.

North boys results: 32. Eric Moorman 19:00; 39. Brady Holloway 19:27; 60. Arek Holloway 20:27; 65. Tyler Jennings 20:35; 67. Zach Johnson 20:44; 73. Gage Acton 21:01; 91. Michael Metz 22:21.

South boys results: 11. Justyn Clark 18:12; 53. Nick Grissom 20:03; 84. Brandon Overlock 21:52; 100. Tyler Wamsley 22:59; 111. Daniel Mapes 24:07.

In the open race, Greensburg freshman Greg Schroeder was the first finisher for the Pirates. He ran a personal best time of 20:20. Senior Joel Chase also established a new personal record of 22:15 for 5000m. Sophomore Ben Newhart also lowered his best time of the season to 22:47.

Both teams return to action on Tuesday when they host East Central, Hauser, and South Decatur. The first race is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
