Friday Night Under the Lights IV

The Boys are Back in Town (and the girls as well)

Greensburg — Despite the title, Thin Lizzy is not coming to Greensburg.

However, boys soccer does return to Greensburg at the U-14 level with a spectacular Friday Night Under the Lights game this Friday, Sept. 6. For the past few years, Decatur County Youth Soccer Club (DCYSC) has not been able to field a boys U-14 soccer team. This year, the decision was made to combine the U-12 and U-14 boys to have one team. This effort was made partially to help the defending Regional Champion Greensburg Pirates keep their program going in the future. To celebrate this renewed team, DCYSC in coordination with the Eastern Indiana Soccer Association (EISA) is proud to present the fourth Annual Friday Night Under the Lights Soccer Event.

This year there will be not one, but two games at the Washington Field Complex. The preliminary game will feature the ladies in a hotly contested U-10 matchup between DC1, coached by Ryan Morton and sponsored by Ag Production, and DC2 coached by former Greensburg High School and Franklin College soccer star Allison Smith and sponsored by KB Specialty Food.

Although this contest will feature two local teams, that aspect will not detract from the intensity of the game as both teams look to improve on their seeding position in the season ending tourney with a win that night. This game will start the night’s action at 5:30 p.m. on the smaller field sitting at right angles to the U-12 and U-14 field.

The main attraction will start at 7 p.m. This game will take place on the “big” field where the old high school football games took place in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. The game brings in one of the EISA teams from Batesville, the B3 bunch coached by Rob Wagner and sponsored by Forethought Financial Group. They will face the DC1, coached by Patty Hensley and sponsored by Kova Fertilizer. The local team has a majority of their players who would normally play in U-12, but their play has improved each week.
