---- — North Decatur sophomore Megan Hoover was already good enough this season to catapult herself into the school’s cross country record books. She had broken her own school record three times, and was only the second female runner in North history to make the Semi-State (after Kelsey Ewing).

By the state-qualifying standards, though, Hoover did not advance to the pinnacle of the tournament.

Hoover clocked a 28th-place 19:18.2, which was 11th individually. She fell short of State by 1.2 seconds.

Regardless, Hoover made Charger Nation proud of her running forte this season.

“Needless to say, I am really proud of Megan and her accomplishments this fall,” said North head coach Scott Johnson. “She is only the second female runner in our school’s history to make the semi-state, which is quite an accomplishment in itself.”

Hoover also won 11 races this season, including conference and County champion, and broke her own school record three times.

“Tremendous season,” said Johnson. “Making state would have been nice, but not making it doesn’t take anything away from the year. I’m already looking forward to next season.”

Carmel was the team Semi-State champion, while Carmel senior Kelcey Welch was the overall Semi-State winner with a time of 17:35.7.

Oldenburg Academy senior Sarah Billingsley qualified individually, placing fourth overall with a time of 18:16.3.
