Jimmie Johnson’s #48 Lowe’s machine dominated Sunday’s AAA 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
With last weekend’s critical NASCAR Sprint Cup victory, Johnson broke the 2013 Chase points tie with title rival Matt Kenseth.
The five-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion now has a seven-point lead over Kenseth, who finished fourth Sunday, as the 2013 Chase drivers return this weekend to the Phoenix International Raceway. Sunday’s AdvoCare 500 is the next to last race in the Chase for the 2013 Sprint Cup title. With a narrow seven-point lead, Johnson must avoid the blown tire and resulting wreck that cost him the 2012 NASCAR Cup title at Phoenix. If 2003 NASCAR Cup Series champion Kenseth can finish seven positions ahead of Johnson at Phoenix, the two 2013 Chase contenders could conceivably go into the FORD 400 season’s finale at Homestead/Miami Speedway tied in Chase for the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup title.
