Aqua Pirates second in tri meet

Greensburg — The Greensburg co-ed swimming teams hosted Batesville and Rushville Tuesday for a tri-meet.

Batesville’s girls edged the Lady Pirates 135-131; the Batesville boys beat GB 148-99. Rushville teams both took third place.

The Lady Pirates won two out of three relays. The quartet of Brianna Stagge, Molly Oesterling, Abby Bausback and Morgan Stagge, won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:09.06. The ‘B’ team relay of Morgan Springmeyer, Ashley Koontz, Megan McDole and Alli Duerstock, took fourth in 2:27.81.

The girls 400-yard freestyle relay of Bausback, Morgan Stagge, Brianna Stagge and Oesterling, won in a time of 4:07.55. The ‘B’ team was third in the 400 free relay, as the foursome of Koontz, Springmeyer, Kaleigh McGinn, and McDole, clocked a 4:46.11.

Oesterling, a sophomore team co-captain, won two individual events. She took the 50 free in 26.53 and the 100 free in 58.57.

Junior co-captain Megan McDole won the 200 yard individual medley in 2:41.60.

Freshman Abby Bausback took the 100-yard butterfly in 1;14.37.

Junior Kaleigh McGinn, Greensburg’s lone diver, won the 1-meter diving event with a score of 139.35.

Brianna Stagge took runner up in two events. She clocked a second-place 6:06.96 in the 500 free, and second in the 200 free in 2:12.92.

Morgan Stagge was third in the 100 backstroke and fourth in the 200 free in 2:31.00.

The girls 200 free relay team of Duerstock, Springmeyer, McGinn and Koontz, took third in 2:12.22.

Fourth:  McGinn (100 breast) 1:36.04; Morgan Springmeyer (100 free) 1:13.70; Ashley Koontz (500 free) 7:04.71; Koontz (200 IM) 3:10.12; Valeria Martinez (100 fly) 1:33.57; Morgan Stagge (200 free) 2:31); Duerstock (50 free) 32.95.

Fifth:  McGinn (100 breast) 1:36.04.

For the Greensburg boys, the 200-yard freestyle relay of Brady Niles, Spencer Kuehl, Justin Starkey and Nick Oesterling, won with a time of 1:42.60.

Sophomore Nick Oesterling led the team in points. He won the 200-yard IM in 2:12.32, and was second in the 100 free in 54.14 seconds. Brady Niles tallied a second-place time of 25.58 in the 50-yard free and a third-place mark of 57.44 in the 100 free.

Drew Reiger took second in the 500 free, clocking a time of 6:08.67. He was also second in the 200 free (2:17.13).

Greensburg sent two sets of swimmers to the pool for the 400-yard freestyle relay. The ‘A’ team of Niles, Reiger, Starkey and Oesterling took second in 3:54.38. The ‘B’ team of Aaron Sia, Andrew Schroeder, Spencer Kuehl and Todd Overmyer, was fourth in 4:44.33.

The boys 200 medley relay of Kuehl, Reiger, Schroeder and Starkey, was third in 2:12.03.

Fourth:  Justin Starkey (50 free) 26.52; Aaron Sia (100 fly) 1:32.38; Schroeder (100 back) 1:22.85.

Fifth:  Overmyer (200 free) 2:35.61; Sia (100 breast) 1:31.77.

The Pirates, which have concluded swimming in 2012, next compete in the Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference meet. Diving will be Jan. 4 and swimming will be Jan. 5.
