The Greensburg girls basketball team hosted first-place East Central Tuesday, falling to the Trojans 49-34.
East Central jumped out to a 13-5 lead after the first quarter. Following its slow offensive start, the Lady Pirates went into the halftime trailing 27-15.
Greensburg, though, came out of the half and put up its highest scoring output of the night, edging the Trojans 14-13 in the third quarter. Despite struggling offensively, Greensburg held the visitors to nine fourth-quarter points and their second-lowest scoring total of the season. The Pirates had lost to East Central by 38 points in the first meeting.
Freshman Taylor McIntosh led Greensburg with a career-high 11 points, including seven in the third-quarter run. Sophomore Jessica Banaschak followed with nine, also scoring seven in the third period. Senior Clare Owens hit two second-quarter 3-pointers for six points. Senior Heidi Dance scored four, while senior Shelby Ward and freshman Keauna Schultz each added two.
Greensburg (5-6 overall, 2-3 in the EIAC) next hosts South Dearborn tonight in a game that was postponed earlier in the season. The Trojans are 9-1 overall and 6-0 in the EIAC.
JV Pirates fall to Trojans
The Greensburg junior varsity team fell to East Central 37-19 in the first game.
The Trojans took an 8-4 lead after the first six minutes, and 20-10 at the half. Greensburg had the third-quarter edge at 9-7, but the Trojans ran away with a 10-0 fourth quarter to seal it.
Megan Schmidt led the Pirates with nine points, including a 3-for-4 effort from the foul line. Emma Wolter hit a 3-pointer, while Allie Geis added three points of her own. Sydney Wettering hit a pair of free throws, while Sydney Reynolds chipped in two points.
