Cincinnati man dies from 30-foot jump at rock quarry

Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a Cincinnati man’s death from a 30 foot jump into water at the White Rock Park located in St. Paul.

Ryan L. Hester of Cincinnati, Ohio, was pronounced dead around 6 p.m. Thursday by the Shelby County Coroner after Indiana Conservation and Indiana State Police divers recovered his body.

Witnesses state the victim and a friend jumped from the platform at the same time where only one is supposed to jump at a time. It was also said that the victim landed awkwardly on a rope marking the landing area which may be a factor in his death.

The incident is still under investigation at this time with an autopsy scheduled for Friday.

Agencies assisting at the scene were the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, the Shelby County Fire Department, the Indiana State Police and Indiana Conservation Officer’s.

Indiana Conservation Officers encourage the use of personal flotation devices/ lifejackets to reduce the risk of injury or drowning.
