Beginning Jan. 10 and running through Feb. 14, from 5:30-7 p.m., the Greensburg Community Learning Center will offer a new and unique class in Japanese culture. Space is limited and additional courses will be offered only when needed. Companies interested in setting up courses more specific to their individual needs or anyone interested in the January session should contact the GCLC at (812) 222-0211 for more information.
Janice K. Huey, of Greensburg, was hit by an automobile and injured on December 27 while walking in Cincinnati, OH. She suffered a broken left femur and a stroke that paralyzed her right side of her body and affected her speech. She spent 4 days in the Neurological ICU at University Hospital in Cincinnati and then was moved to a regular room until January 8th when she was transferred to Drake Center Rehabilitation facility in Cincinnati to begin recovery. She has regained much of the movement of her right leg and arm, but is still learning how to eat and swallow again as well as being able to talk and write. Her family has set up a special account to help with medical expenses. The Decatur County Family YMCA is holding its 3rd Biggest Loser Buddy Challenge Feb. 19–April 23. For eight weeks you and a buddy can compete with others to win a 6-month free membership to the YMCA or $100 each. There will be 2nd and 3rd place winners as well. Registration ends Feb. 23. Registration fees are as follows: Y-Members $10.00 and Non-Members $50 each. The registration fees include a t-shirt and unlimited access to the YMCA for the eight weeks of competition. The Historical Society of Decatur County would like to announce new winter hours for their Museum located at 222 N. Franklin. If your child enjoys listening to stories, singing, dancing and making crafts, you should stop by the Children’s Room at the Greensburg Library to sign up for Story Time. It is open to children ages 3 - 6 years of age. Classes are available Mon. and Thurs evenings and Tues and Wed mornings. White Feather Horses for Hope, Inc. is a non-profit therapeutic riding center that offers equine assisted therapy for children and adults with special needs. They are looking for any volunteers 14 or older who are interested in working with horses and their special needs riders during riding classes. The GCHS Needlecraft Club will be meeting in room S-23 from 3:15 - 5:15 p.m. This weekly meeting is open to all students, staff, and community members. Everyone is invited to come and learn new skills, improve older skills, or to just come and relax and appreciate a wide variety of needlecrafts. Instruction in sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, and various forms of embroidery will be available. The Alzheimer’s Association offers support groups for caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias. Participants in support groups receive emotional support, practical assistance in coping with the issues they face, and the latest information about research. All meetings are confidential and free of charge. The caregiver support group meetings in Greensburg are held on the 2nd Monday of every month at 4:00 p.m. at Decatur County Memorial Hospital, 720 North Lincoln Street, in their classroom. The Mental Health Support Group meets at 7 p.m. the last Monday of each month in the conference room of the Decatur County Memorial Hospital. New Point Community Senior Club meets every fourth Tuesday at the New Point Community Senior Center at 6 p.m.
An oratorical contest open to all boys and girls who have not attained the age of 16 by Jan. 1, 2007, is being conducted by the Greensburg Optimist Club. The contest will be held on February 20 at 6 p.m. at the Greensburg High School Auditorium. The topic is “My Biggest Challenge Is...” Medals will be awarded to the top three winners. First place winners are eligible for a $1,500 scholarship. For more information or questions, students should contact their school representative. The public is invited to attend.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5584 and the Ladies Auxiliary meet on the second Tuesday of each month in the fellowship hall and an adjoining classroom of the First Presbyterian Church. Meetings begin at 7 p.m.
The Napoleon Senior Club will meet on the first Tuesday of each month at the Napoleon Senior Center at 6 p.m. All seniors are welcome.
The Westport Branch Library will have storytime on every Tuesday from 10:30 - 11 a.m. Storytime is for children ages 3 to 6. We read stories to the children and they make a small craft to take home.

Over 20 racks of new uniforms, scrubs, shoes and other accessories will be available. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Hospital Auxiliary and DCMH. The Greensburg Library will have a Westport Craft Program at the library on January 31 at 3:30 p.m.
The Westport Branch Library will be offering an adult craft program on January 31 at 3:30 p.m. This craft will have a Valentine’s Day theme. Charge for this craft will be $2 to cover the cost of materials. You can see a sample of this craft on display in the library. Hickory Creek at Greensburg would like to invite the community to a baked potato bar on Wednesday, January 31 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1620 N. Lincoln St.. Knights of Columbus will offer their annual Whole Hog Sausage Civic Night Thursday, Feb. 1. The event is free to the following: Past Grand Knights, police, fire and ambulance departments, city and county officials and their staffs. Location: Knights of Columbus Hall, Hwy 46 W., Greensburg. Serving will begin at 6:30 p.m.
"Decatur County's Relay for Life will hold its 2007 Kickoff meeting at 7:00 PM on Thursday, February 8th at the Decatur County REMC. Anyone interested in starting a team or being a team captain this year should plan to attend. The Relay for Life is a team event to fight cancer with the American Cancer Society at the Decatur County Fairgrounds on June 9th & 10th. The Greensburg Jaycees monthly membership meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday of the month at noon at Mulligan’s Grill at the Greensburg Country Club and the 4th Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Decatur County YMCA. The Eagles #927 will be hosting a Valentine’s Day Dance February 16 from 8 until midnight. The event is open to the public.
The Class of 2009 will be hosting a second fundraising dinner on Friday, February 2 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. This will be held in conjunction with the Boys JV/Varsity game with Rushville (starting at 6 p.m.). All meals are $5 and consist of Spaghetti with meat sauce, salad, garlic bread, dessert and drink. All proceeds benefit the Sophomore Class.
Saturday
Attention all Euchre players. More than $2000 is up for grabs to the area’s top Euchre players at the Greensburg Rotary’s sixth annual Euchre tournament to benefit Special Olympics. This year’s tournament is slated for Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Knights of St. John Hall. First round begins at 9:30 a.m., with the finals starting at 1:30 p.m. Tournament registration cost is $25, and includes lunch. Registration forms are due Feb. 21 and are available from any local Rotarian, or by calling 663-2688. Last year’s tournament saw more than 80 regional contestants and awarded a top purse of $1,000. Again this year we’ll be awarding $1,000 for first place. Other prizes range from $500 for 2nd place to $100 for fifth place. All proceeds from the event cover transportation costs for local Special Olympic athletes to compete at the state games in Terre Haute.
The Decatur County Parks and Recreation Department will be offering open gym hours on Saturday’s at the Parks Department. This service is offered free of charge to the public. The gym is open to elementary and junior high age students from 8 a.m. - 12 noon. Love and crafts are in the air at the Greensburg Library. A Valentine’s craft program for kids, first grade and up is being held on Saturday, February 10 at 10 a.m. Kids will make a ladybug tic-tac-toe game and homemade valentine cards. North Decatur After Prom Committee is having a Baked Spagetti Dinner on Saturday, February 17 in the school cafeteria. The dinner will be from 4:30 - 6:30 and the cost is $5.00/person. The meal will include Baked Spagetti, garlic bread, dessert and drink. This is the final home basketball game of the season, Senior Night and North vs. South. Sunday
The Decatur County Parks and Recreation Department is offering open gym at the Greensburg Community High School Fieldhouse. The fieldhouse is open to the public at no charge on Sundays from 5 - 9 p.m. The facility offers and indoor walking track and two full size gym floors that are available for basketball and volleyball.
Super Bowl Sunday on February 4, the Greensburg Knights of Columbus Bingo will start at 3 p.m. instead of 5:30 p.m. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. All are welcome and food and drinks will be available.
