This listing is intended for use by those groups providing a community service in Decatur County that is open to all. Monday

The Alzheimer’s Association offers support groups for caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias. Participants in support groups receive emotional support, practical assistance in coping with the issues they face, and the latest information about research. All meetings are confidential and free of charge. The caregiver support group meetings in Greensburg are held on the 2nd Monday of every month at 4:00 p.m. at Decatur County Memorial Hospital, 720 North Lincoln Street, in their classroom. Nominations for the Eagles 927 Auxilary will be conducted on April 23 at 7 p.m. Auxilary members are welcome to come and put in your input or can call Faye Zeigler at 812-663-5630.

The Mental Health Support Group meets at 7 p.m. the last Monday of each month in the conference room of the Decatur County Memorial Hospital. They invite everyone suffering from mental illness or caring for a family member with mental illness to attend. All meetings are held strictly confidential. Tuesday

The Annual Meeting of the Decatur County Lifeline Systems, Inc. will be held Tuesday, April 17, 2007 in the OB Classroom at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital at 7:00 p.m.

New Point Community Senior Club meets every fourth Tuesday at the New Point Community Senior Center at 6 p.m.

Every Tuesday, 6 - 7:30 p.m., March 27 - May 22 It's time to try Rev It Up Fitness at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital. Cost of class includes T-shirt, water bottle, cholesterol and blood sugar lab work, manual and log book. Are you tired and discouraged in your attempts to "get in shape" or "eat more healthy?"Confused about carbohydrates, proteins? Your workouts just aren't working out? The main goal of Rev It Up Fitness is to offer a realistic weight management program designed to help you gain a partnership with your body.

Decatur County Extension Homemakers host a Mexican Fiesta International Night, April 10, El Reparo Restaurant, Greensburg. Reservations for this event are full.

Co-ed 55+ Bible study and fellowship at the YMCA conference room on Tuesdays from 10:30-11:45 a.m. For information, contact Connie McCracken at 663-3531.

Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) weight loss support group meets every Tuesday at the First Christian Church in Greensburg.  Weigh-in is from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. & nbsp; Meeting starts at 5:30 p.m.  For more information please call 812-663-3928.

New Point Kiwanis meets the first and third Tuesday of every month at 6:15 p.m. in the New Point Community Center.

Lap sit classes will be held at the Greensburg Public Library on Tuesday mornings from 9:10-9:30 a.m. Lap sit is open to parents and their baby 6-17 months of age.

The Human Services Inc. Board of Directors meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 12 p.m. The meetings are held at the Human Services Inc. main office located at 1585 Indianapolis Road, Columbus, Indiana and are open to the general public. The Human Services Inc. is a community action, not-for-profit organization that provides programs for low income, at-risk individuals and families living in the counties of Bartholomew, Brown, Decatur, Jackson, Johnson and Shelby. These programs include Head Start pre-school, Section 8 housing voucher, Energy assistance, Food pantry, Child Care voucher, WIC, Weatherization and a Housing Re-hab. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5584 and the Ladies Auxiliary meet on the second Tuesday of each month in the fellowship hall and an adjoining classroom of the First Presbyterian Church. Meetings begin at 7 p.m.

The Napoleon Senior Club will meet on the first Tuesday of each month at the Napoleon Senior Center at 6 p.m. All seniors are welcome.

The Westport Branch Library will have storytime on every Tuesday from 10:30 - 11 a.m. Storytime is for children ages 3 to 6. We read stories to the children and they make a small craft to take home.


Wednesday

Public Salad Bar at CrownPointe Retirement Community will resume each Wednesday starting April 4. The salad bar is open to the public 55 and over from 12:30-1:30 p.m. each Wednesday in the CrownPointe dining room. The cost is $3.00 per person. FREE Blood Pressure checks are also available on Wednesdays starting at 12 p.m. Call 662-8888 for more information.

There will be a Decatur County E9-1-1 Board of Directors meeting at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11 at the Greensburg Police Department. The public is invited.

Thursday

The Airport Commission Board will hold a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. April 16 at City Hall Council Chambers at 314 W. Washington St. The Airport Commission Board will hold their meetings on the third Monday of each month.

The Optimist Club meets every Thursday at 6:30 a.m. at Somethin’s Perkin.

Westport Kiwanis will be a meeting every Thursday at the Community Building at 6:30 p.m. We will be working on community projects.

Lake Santee Kiwanis meets on the first and third Thursday of every month at the community building at 6:15 p.m.

The Greensburg Jaycees board of directors meets the 4th Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Decatur County YMCA. If you are interested in joining or for questions please call Matt Miller at 663-2656.

St. Peters U.C.C., Finks Road, Osgood, will be having a coffee social on April 19 from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. It will be a traditional ham dinner with a full meal served. Good will offering, carryout available and everyone welcome.

There will be a coffee social in Napoleon at St. John’s Lutheran Church on April 12 beginning at 4:30 p.m. Menu items include: ham, german potato salad, homemade coffee cakes, etc. and everyone is welcome.

The Greensburg Kiwanis Club meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on South U.S. 421. Guests always welcome.

Friday

Over 60 Bingo will be provided by The Waters of Batesville. Come and enjoy free Bingo at the New Point Community Center Senior Luncheon Site on Friday, April 13 at 9:30 a.m. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. For more information and lunch reservations please call 812-614-4116.

Saturday

Sunday

New Point Community Volunteer Fire Department Breakfast and Raffle will be held April 15 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the New Point Community Volunteer Fire Department. The menu includes whole hog sausage, pancakes, biscuits and gravy. It is an all you can eat - free will offering.

The Greensburg Knights of St. John will have a Breakfast on Sunday, April 15 at their hall on South Wilder Street. Serving will begin at 7 a.m. and go to 11 a.m. All you can eat. Menu items include: whole hog sausage, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, pastries, fruit, juice, and coffee. Free will offering, carryouts available and everyone is welcome.

Ongoing

There is still booth space available for the Westport Covered Bridge Festival. The festival will be held on June 2. Anyone interested can contact Dave Stults at 812 591 3827 for more information. New for this year’s Covered Bridge Festival is the co-ed backyard volleyball tournament. It is $30 per team to registure. Teams are consist of a maximum of three males. The Newpoint Christian Church, on State Highway 46, is expanding it's services to the community by offering a preschool in the new building.  Enrollment is ongoing at the Sonshine Christian Preschool. We accept children ages 3-5 yrs. old and school begins Sept. 5 and ends May 21.

Decatur County Human Services, Inc. administers the Child Care Voucher Program for Decatur County.  This program provides services through licensed providers for parents seeking quality child care.  Currently there is a very small waiting list.  To apply for this program come to Human Services with your most recent pay stub or current school schedule.  You will be asked to fill out an application and provide some general information.  Our child care providers are licensed thru the SIEOC.  Anyone wanting to become a licensed provider may also contact Human Services at 1939 N. The Meals and Better Living Senior Nutrition Program of Aging and Community Services is offering gift certificates that can be used to purchase hot and nutricious meals for homebound persons. For more information please contact Shelia Woods at 372-6918 or toll free at 1-866-644-6407.

The Historical Society of Decatur County is reopening on Saturdays and Sundays beginning April 1. Hours will be: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday - 10 - 2; Sunday, 1 - 4; Closed Easter Sunday, April 8. Current exhibits include In the Pink, Basketball in Decatur County and comming in May: Labors of Love.

If your child enjoys listening to stories, singing, dancing and making crafts, you should stop by the Children’s Room at the Greensburg Library to sign up for Story Time. It is open to children ages 3 - 6 years of age. Classes are available Mon. and Thurs evenings and Tues and Wed mornings. You may call the library at 663-4455 for more information and to get registered.

White Feather Horses for Hope, Inc. is a non-profit therapeutic riding center that offers equine assisted therapy for children and adults with special needs. They are looking for any volunteers 14 or older who are interested in working with horses and their special needs riders during riding classes. There will be a 2 - 3 hour orientation for insurance purposes. Please contact Karen Lashley at 812- 614 - 2766 for more information.

Nutritional meals are served everyday at 11:30 a.m. Monday - Friday at the St. Paul Civic Center, 120 E. Washington St., St Paul. If you are 60 years of age or older, join us for fun and fellowship. You may contact Trudy Lewis at 765-525-6306. The Civic Center is open from 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Stitches from the Heart needs volunteers to Knit, Crochet or quilt blankets, little sweaters and hats for babies in need. These items are donated to 570 hospitals all over the country. Please contact Kathy Silverton, toll free, at 866-472-6903.

The GCHS Needlecraft Club will be meeting in room S-23 on Tuesdays from 3:15 - 5:15 p.m. This weekly meeting is open to all students, staff, and community members. Everyone is invited to come and learn new skills, improve older skills, or to just come and relax and appreciate a wide variety of needlecrafts. Instruction in sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, and various forms of embroidery will be available. Donate Once a Year Campaign for the Greensburg Community Bread of Life: Sign up to Donate just once a year to help feed the hungry in Greensburg. Tax free preperation filing is available again this year at the First Baptist Church in Greensburg. IRS certified councilers will file taxes for an appointement call 614-5566 between 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Appointements Mon and Thurs 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. and Tues. and Wed. 1 - 5 p.m.

Psi Iota Xi Sorority is now taking orders for their Annual Spring Flower Sale.  Anyone wishing to place an order or for more information, please contact Karen Matlock, 663-8331 or Sheila Doerflinger, 663-5392. All proceeds are used in the community for scholarships and other youth projects.

Every Tuesday and Thursday there will be a bike ride at 6 p.m. - weather permitting - beginning April 3. The place to meet is at the gazebo on the courthouse square and will either be 5 or 25 miles and returning to town. All riders are welcome. They will be set up for both beginner and experienced riders. Youth riders must be accompanied by an adult.Ride leaders may not always be present, but routes will be marked and maps will be available. Helmets are stronly recommended. Topics include religion, education, business, food etiquette. Classes held at the Greensburg Community Learning Center. Instructor Susan Westhafer Furukawa lived and taught in Japan for six years.

Beginning Japanese Language Class Wednesday nights from 4-5 p.m. Class runs from May 2-May 30. Registration, 222-0211, ends April 27. Learn how to read, write and speak Japanese. Classes held at the Greensburg Community Learning Center. Instructor Susan Westhafer Furukawa lived and taught in Japan for six years.
