Monday
The Alzheimer’s Association offers support groups for caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias. Participants in support groups receive emotional support, practical assistance in coping with the issues they face, and the latest information about research. All meetings are confidential and free of charge. The caregiver support group meetings in Greensburg are held on the 2nd Monday of every month at 4:00 p.m. at Decatur County Memorial Hospital, 720 North Lincoln Street, in their classroom. The Delta Theta Tau meeting will be at the home of Lucille Wallpe, 220 West Washington on June 4 at 1:30 p.m.
The Mental Health Support Group meets at 7 p.m. the last Monday of each month in the conference room of the Decatur County Memorial Hospital. They invite everyone suffering from mental illness or caring for a family member with mental illness to attend. All meetings are held strictly confidential. Tuesday
New Point Community Senior Club meets every fourth Tuesday at the New Point Community Senior Center at 6 p.m.
Every other Tuesday the Cub Scout Pack led by Becky Ogle meets from 6 - 7:30 p.m. at the Baptist Youth Camp.
Co-ed 55+ Bible study and fellowship at the YMCA conference room on Tuesdays from 10:30-11:45 a.m. For information, contact Connie McCracken at 663-3531.
Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) weight loss support group meets every Tuesday at the First Christian Church in Greensburg. Weigh-in is from 5-5:30 p.m. Meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. For more information please call 812-663-3763 or 812-663-5623.
New Point Kiwanis meets the first and third Tuesday of every month at 6:15 p.m. in the New Point Community Center.
Lap sit classes will be held at the Greensburg Public Library on Tuesday mornings from 9:10-9:30 a.m. Lap sit is open to parents and their baby 6-17 months of age.
The Human Services Inc. Board of Directors meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 12 p.m. The meetings are held at the Human Services Inc. main office located at 1585 Indianapolis Road, Columbus, Indiana and are open to the general public. The Human Services Inc. is a community action, not-for-profit organization that provides programs for low income, at-risk individuals and families living in the counties of Bartholomew, Brown, Decatur, Jackson, Johnson and Shelby. These programs include Head Start pre-school, Section 8 housing voucher, Energy assistance, Food pantry, Child Care voucher, WIC, Weatherization and a Housing Re-hab. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5584 and the Ladies Auxiliary meet on the second Tuesday of each month in the fellowship hall and an adjoining classroom of the First Presbyterian Church. Meetings begin at 7 p.m.
The Napoleon Senior Club will meet on the first Tuesday of each month at the Napoleon Senior Center at 6 p.m. All seniors are welcome.
The Westport Branch Library will have storytime on every Tuesday from 10:30 - 11 a.m. Storytime is for children ages 3 to 6. We read stories to the children and they make a small craft to take home.
Wednesday
Public Salad Bar at CrownPointe Retirement Community will be on every Wednesday. The salad bar is open to the public 55 and over from 12:30-1:30 p.m. each Wednesday in the CrownPointe dining room. The cost is $3.00 per person. FREE Blood Pressure checks are also available on Wednesdays starting at 12 p.m. Call 662-8888 for more information.
The Greensburg Library will have Summer Reading Kickoff at 4 p.m. on May 30.
Thursday
The Optimist Club meets every Thursday at 6:30 a.m. at Somethin’s Perkin.
St. John’s Lutheran Church of Napoleon will have its monthly “Coffee Social”(ham, German potato salad, homemade coffee cakes, etc) on Thursday June 7. Serving starts at 4:30 PM and everyone is welcome. Carryouts are available.
Would you like to build a better board for the non-profit organization you are involved with? Nationally known presenter Chuck Loring will be at the Greensburg Learning Center on June 5 to help you do just that. Mr. Loring will be presenting a session from 9 a.m. –noon on Board Governance. The session includes board responsibility, board diversity, board recruiting and board assessment. The second session from 1 pm - 4 p.m. is on board fundraising. Westport Kiwanis will be a meeting every Thursday at the Community Building at 6:30 p.m. We will be working on community projects.
Lake Santee Kiwanis meets on the first and third Thursday of every month at the community building at 6:15 p.m.
The Greensburg Jaycees board of directors meets the 4th Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Decatur County YMCA. If you are interested in joining or for questions please call Matt Miller at 663-2656.
The Greensburg Kiwanis Club meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on South U.S. 421. Guests always welcome.
Friday
The Decatur County Community Foundation announces the availability of a $2,000 grant from the Fund for Women and Girls. The grant is available to non-profits providing a program that will better the lives of women and girls in Decatur County. Applications are due May 18. Morning Breeze is having a Rockin’ Rummage sale on June 8th. All proceeds will go the resident’s fund which will be used to buy rocking chairs for the front portico. Our residents will enjoy rocking away the lazy days of summer. Please help us to reach our goal by Coming to Morning Breeze on June 8 from 9 am to 3pm!
There will be no Farmers’ Market on June 1 to make way for the United Fund’s Strawberry Festival on the square. It will resume next Friday, June 8, at the usual time of 2 - 6 p.m. on the square.
The Decatur County United Fund’s annual Strawberry Festival is set for Friday, June 1, on the south side of the courthouse square. Serving will be from 11:00 a.m. -2:30 p.m. Shortcakes are priced at $3.00. The United Fund also makes it easy for you to enjoy a shortcake treat in the comfort of your own cubicle with delivery service for orders of ten or more. Please call the United Fund office at 663-3342 for information. All proceeds from the Strawberry Festival benefit 24 local health and human service agencies.
Saturday
The Greensburg Kiwanis Club will be hosting a magic show fund-raiser on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at 7 p.m. Illusionist Roger Despard will be performing the windshear; an illusion where Roger attempts to pass through an industrial size fan, and many other exciting illusions seen on national television and live on stage. The Greensburg Kiwanis Club will be conducting a telephone ticket campaign during the next several weeks. Proceeds from the show will help with their many community services in the area.
The Greensburg Kiwanis will be hosting the Grand illusion Magic Show on June 9 at 7 p.m. at the Greensburg High School Auditorium to help with the funding for community projects. Tickets will be available at the door.
The Decatur County Relay for Life will be held from 8:00 AM on June 9th to 8:00 AM on June 10th at the Decatur County Fairgrounds. Relay for Life is a 24 hour team event to fight cancer with the American Cancer Society. The Survivor's Brunch will be held at 9:45 AM on June 9th in the Community Building. Call the Oncology Department at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital at 663-1301 for reservations for the brunch by June 1st. All survivors need to be registered in the survivors tent before the Survivors Lap at 9:00. If you would like to purchase a luminary to honor a loved one who has battled cancer, contact Rita Phelps at 663-2922 or Marsha Ryle at 663-4349. Luminaries may be purchased for $10. Ongoing
The Newpoint Christian Church, on State Highway 46, is expanding it's services to the community by offering a preschool in the new building. Enrollment is ongoing at the Sonshine Christian Preschool. We accept children ages 3-5 yrs. old and school begins Sept. 5 and ends May 21.
Decatur County Human Services, Inc. administers the Child Care Voucher Program for Decatur County. This program provides services through licensed providers for parents seeking quality child care. Currently there is a very small waiting list. To apply for this program come to Human Services with your most recent pay stub or current school schedule. You will be asked to fill out an application and provide some general information. Our child care providers are licensed thru the SIEOC. Anyone wanting to become a licensed provider may also contact Human Services at 1939 N. Carver Street Greensburg, Indiana 47240, or call (812)663-8830.
The Meals and Better Living Senior Nutrition Program of Aging and Community Services is offering gift certificates that can be used to purchase hot and nutritious meals for homebound persons. For more information please contact Shelia Woods at 372-6918 or toll free at 1-866-644-6407.
If your child enjoys listening to stories, singing, dancing and making crafts, you should stop by the Children’s Room at the Greensburg Library to sign up for Story Time. It is open to children ages 3 - 6 years of age. Classes are available Mon. and Thurs evenings and Tues and Wed mornings. Nutritional meals are served everyday at 11:30 a.m. Monday - Friday at the St. Paul Civic Center, 120 E. Washington St., St Paul. If you are 60 years of age or older, join us for fun and fellowship. You may contact Trudy Lewis at 765-525-6306. The Civic Center is open from 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Donate Once a Year Campaign for the Greensburg Community Bread of Life: Sign up to Donate just once a year to help feed the hungry in Greensburg. Every Tuesday and Thursday there will be a bike ride at 6 p.m. - weather permitting - beginning April 3. The place to meet is at the gazebo on the courthouse square and will either be 5 or 25 miles and returning to town. All riders are welcome. They will be set up for both beginner and experienced riders. Youth riders must be accompanied by an adult.Ride leaders may not always be present, but routes will be marked and maps will be available. Helmets are strongly recommended. Decatur County Girl Scouts is accepting applications for Camp Wildwood, its summer Day Camp. The camp will run from July 30 to Aug. 3 at the Decatur County Fairgrounds and all girls between the ages of 5 and 17 are invited. The cost is $55 for the whole week, and girls who are not registered with Girl Scouts need to pay an additional $10 membership fee.
