The Alzheimer’s Association offers support groups for caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias. Participants in support groups receive emotional support, practical assistance in coping with the issues they face, and the latest information about research. All meetings are confidential and free of charge. The caregiver support group meetings in Greensburg are held on the 2nd Monday of every month at 4:00 p.m. at the Greensburg Library, 1110 East Main Street. Tae Kwon Do registration is starting October 8 and running through October 29 at the YMCA. This program is for both school aged children and adults. The Mental Health Support Group meets at 7 p.m. the last Monday of each month in the conference room of the Decatur County Memorial Hospital. The Greensburg Community High School is hosting the Decatur County College Fair on October 23 from 6:30 - 8 p.m. in the high school gym. This years the College Fair is a joint effort between Greensburg, North and South Decatur High Schools. all interested students and parents are invited to attend.Representitives will be on hand from over 40 colleges, universities, technical schools and the military. In addition Fifth Third and Irwin Band will each sponsor a $250 textbook reimbursement for college book expenses. Drawings are open to all seiors who attend.

Join the High School Concert Band as it kicks off the 2007-’08 year with a Halloween Concert on Tuesday, October 30 at 7 p.m. in the High School Auditorium. The band will be dressed in costume, and the audience is encouraged to do the same, or just come as you are to enjoy the music. After the concert, an opportunity will be provided to trick or treat in various rooms representing different instruments in the band. Please join us for a couple hours of fun, music, and education. All are welcome. The concert and the trick-or-treating are free of charge.

The Human Services Inc. The Human Services Inc. is a community action, not-for-profit organization that provides programs for low income, at-risk individuals and families living in the counties of Bartholomew, Brown, Decatur, Jackson, Johnson and Shelby. The South Bend Chocolate Company is returning to Greensburg on Oct. 31 with a chocolate show to benefit the Hospital Auxiliary and DCMH. You’ll be able to buy all of the treats that have made South Bend Chocolates famous: Gourmet and sugar free treats, a variety of fudges, turtles, fresh roasted nuts, bulk and boxed chocolates, pumpkin crunch and pumpkin pretzels and much more. The First Presbyterian Church Soup and Sandwich Lunch is on Wednesday from 11-1 p.m. The lunch includes homemade soup, sandwich, cookies and beverage for $5 with the proceeds dedicated to purchasing glasses for three elementary school students.
The Greensburg and Millhousen Knights of St. John will have a turkey dinner on October 24 at the Greensburg Knights of St. John Hall on 312 South Wilder Street. There will also be a magic show by Extreme Entertainment. A free T-shirt will be given to the first 150 kids and free reflective Halloween bags will be given out while supplies last.

Dress up in your favorite costume and come to Bats and Boo…ks - Halloween at the Greensburg Public Library on Oct. 26 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Doors will open at 6:15 to give all the little ghosts and goblins time to come in and find a seat for the “not-so-scary” stories that will be told. In addition to the stories, families will be served cookies, popcorn, hot chocolate and “ghoul” aid. There will be several crafts to make and the kids can participate in the annual straw scavenger hunt. Each family may bring one carved or decorated pumpkin to be judged as funniest, scariest, prettiest, most creative or most unusual. Pumpkins must arrive by 6:30 to be eligible for judging and books will be awarded as prizes. All activities will be indoors making it a safe, warm and dry location for all to gather. This is a family program. All children must be accompanied by an adult and grown-ups are encouraged to dress up, too. Registration is required to ensure enough food and fun for everyone. Decatur County Human Services, Inc. administers the Child Care Voucher Program for Decatur County. This program provides services through licensed providers for parents seeking quality child care. Currently there is a very small waiting list. To apply for this program come to Human Services with your most recent pay stub or current school schedule. You will be asked to fill out an application and provide some general information. Our child care providers are licensed thru the SIEOC. Registration is going on now for Positively Preschool at the YMCA. These programs are for children 3 - 5 and their parents. Every Tuesday and Thursday there will be a bike ride at 6 p.m. - weather permitting. The place to meet is at the gazebo on the courthouse square and will either be 5 or 25 miles and returning to town. All riders are welcome. They will be set up for both beginner and experienced riders. Youth riders must be accompanied by an adult.Ride leaders may not always be present, but routes will be marked and maps will be available. Helmets are strongly recommended.
