Two injured in I-74 accident

Greensburg — A single-vehicle accident on I-74 resulted in injury to two Rushville residents Wednesday morning.

According to a crash report obtained from the Greensburg Police Department, Brian E. Paugh, 42, and his daughter, Alicia D. Paugh, 21, were injured when a 1995 Pontiac Sunfire driven by Alicia Paugh left the roadway of I-74, near the 134 mile marker, and rolled over, coming to rest on its top in the median.

The accident occurred just before 6 a.m. and was responded to by the Greensburg Police Department, Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, Decatur County EMS and the Greensburg Fire Department.

Brian Paugh suffered a cut to his head in the crash that led to minor bleeding. Alicia Paugh complained of neck pain. The driver was extracted from the vehicle by a passing truck driver. Both were transported to Decatur County Memorial Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

According to a report given to Greensburg Police Captain Dennis Blodgett, Alicia Paugh told authorities she had merged on I-74 westbound at the 134 mile marker from State Road 3. Paugh then attempted to change lanes in order to pass a semi. While doing so, Paugh did not see a car traveling in the lane in which she had attempted to enter. The driver of the vehicle in the fast lane attempted to alert Paugh of her presence by honking her horn. She then drove into the median to avoid contact with Paugh’s car.

The crash report cites improper passing and unsafe lane movement as the primary factors contributing to the accident.
