Adams FD treasurer facing felony charges

Greensburg — On Wednesday morning, Adams Township Fire Department treasurer turned herself in to the Decatur County Jail after a warrant was issued for her arrest out of Decatur Circuit Court.

According to Detective Indiana State Police Dan Elmore, an investigation began in October 2013, when an internal audit at Main Source Bank in Greensburg revealed suspicious transactions in the Adams Township Fire Department’s account. The investigation revealed that, between August 2011, and October 2013, 47-year-old Laurie L. Swegman of Greensburg, allegedly transferred funds from the Adams Township Fire Department to her personal accounts or accounts of her children on 93 different occasions.

Over the two-year period, those transactions resulted in over $47,000 of the fire department’s funds being illegally transferred from that account into those of Swegman’s. Swegman was arrested this morning on two counts of Defrauding a Financial Institution (Class C Felony). After being processed at the jail, Swegman posted a $30,000 bond and was released. Detective Elmore was assisted in his investigation by Main Source Bank.
