Decatur County under threat of severe weather

GREENSBURG -- According to the Decatur County Emergency Management Agency (DCEMA), Decatur County has been placed under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 9 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service, this watch is issued when conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.

A severe thunderstorm can produce one inch and larger hail and winds that equal or exceed 58 miles per hour.

While the threat of damage to people and property was relatively minor at the time the watch was issued, those in the affected area should be prepared to take shelter should the weather take a turn for the worse.

Decatur County residents can check DCEMA alerts at local.nixle.com/decatur-county-emergency-management/.

To sign up for text alerts, text "47240" to 888777. There is no charge for registering, but standard text messaging rates will apply.
