Right to Life remembering lives lost to abortion

Greensburg — Nearly 40 years ago, on Jan. 22, 1973, the United States Supreme Court proclaimed a mother could legally seek an abortion in the landmark Roe vs. Wade court decision.

In that time, more than a million unborn children have been aborted.

In response to this, Decatur County Right to Life will once again host an annual gathering in remembrance of those lives lost throughout the past four decades.

The ceremony will be conducted at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23 on the east side of the courthouse square.

The service is expected to last approximately 20 minutes and will feature a 12-minute meditation by Eileen Hartman, founder of the Gabriel Project. The Gabriel Project is comprised of families who help women experiencing crisis pregnancies.

Flowers will be placed in an infant’s casket by each person in attendance.

The ceremony will also feature an opening prayer led by Rev. Doug Preston of the Wesleyan Christian Church. The ceremony will be accompanied by “meaningful and appropriate” music, according to its organizers.

There is no charge to attend the remembrance ceremony and all members of the public are invited.
