For the past few years, the Good Shepherd Christian Academy, which is part of the First Baptist Church, has continued to expand its curricula and work toward its goal of becoming state accredited. Last week, those working at the academy had their wish fulfilled.
According to Pastor Dave Thompson, state accreditation means that the school has met the state criteria for education. Along with the new opportunities and responsibilities being state accredited means comes the necessity of a new appointed position to the academy.
Recently appointed administrative coordinator Janet Hodson has stepped up and will be overseeing many of the aspects that make up the Christian Academy. Hodson graduated from the Church Leader Initiative at Franklin in February. She had worked in the Columbus Christian School system for nine years as an aid. There, she also taught a daily Bible class to seventh through 12th graders.
Her new duties as administrative coordinator for the Good Shepherd Christian Academy include looking over the school’s day to day activities, and looking toward new policies while keeping the academy at state standards. Hodson will also keep records, work on registration and help with attendance. Beginning in the spring of the school year, Hodson will administer the ISTEP test while always checking the curriculum to make sure it is up to speed.
“I’m so excited about it,” Hodson said. “I feel like I was created for this position.”
Hodson noted that her love for education accompanied with her impressive administrative talents will allow her to do her best for the school and church.
