Julia A. Wickard, State Executive Director of USDA's Farm Service Agency (FSA) wants to remind landowners and farmers that the opportunity to enroll in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) general sign-up 43 ends Friday, April 6, 2012.

Producers who want to offer eligible land for CRP's competitive general sign-up may enroll at the FSA county office where their farm records are maintained.

"CRP promotes a balance of allowing land owners to enroll land that protects our natural resources while still allowing the most fertile and productive land on their farms to be used for the production of food," said Wickard.

CRP is a voluntary program that protects environmentally sensitive land.

Producers enrolling in CRP plant long-term, resource-conserving covers in exchange for rental payments, cost-share and technical assistance.

Producers are encouraged to contact their local FSA service center or visit FSA's website at http://www.fsa.usda.gov/crp for additional information regarding CRP.
