This Saturday, May 16, is a free fishing day in Indiana.
On these days, Indiana residents do not need a fishing license or a trout/salmon stamp to fish the state’s public waters.
All other Indiana fishing rules and regulations apply. Normally, anyone 18 years old and older needs a license to fish.
The DNR Division of Fish & Wildlife is also hosting free Family Learn to Fish Workshops at Krannert Park in Indianapolis, Maple Avenue Park in Terre Haute and Munger Park in Lafayette.
Each Family Learn to Fish workshops runs from 9 a.m. to noon. They are designed for families to learn how to fish together. Families will learn fish biology and basic fishing skills. Participants can then practice by fishing at the park’s lake or pond.
No experience is needed. All fishing equipment and bait will be provided. Children must be 6 years old or older.
The next free fishing days are June 6-7.
